Droughts decimate livelihoods, contributing to humanitarian crises. By providing financial support before disasters strike, families can purchase feed for livestock, secure water supplies or meet other critical needs. This pilot successfully insured 517 pastoralists (70% women) against drought using RLUSD.

The increased frequency of climate shocks is disproportionately affecting MSMEs in Kenya resulting in disrupted livelihoods and increased loan defaults. This pilot tests the use of blockchain-powered parametric insurance, embedded with micro loans to protect MSMEs from climate shocks such as drought, floods, excessive rain, etc.​

Smallholder farmers in Argentina use their harvested grains as a hedge against inflation, and (ideally) as collateral to access working capital. However, the excessive administrative requirements make the use of grains as financing collateral unattractive for commercial lenders.​ This pilot tests the use of grain tokenization and on-chain credit default guarantees to unlock access to credit for smallholder farmers​
